The Prospect Of Buying Real Estate In Mexico Just Keeps Getting Better

The Prospect Of Buying Real Estate In Mexico Just Keeps Getting BetterLast week, Mexican president Felipe Calderon signed into law an exceptional set of judicial reforms that will change Mexico forever. Calderon approved a fundamental shift in Mexico’s judicial system, leaving behind the Napoleonic law on which the country was founded. In its place, Mexico will adopt the presumption of innocence, and begin conducting jury trials on criminal matters. While the reforms are judicial in nature, it brings Mexico into the 21st century and will ensure Mexico’s place at the forefront of developing countries. It’s also great news for people who are thinking of buying real estate in Mexico.

The fundamental shift of the judicial system means a great deal to people who may migrate to Mexico from other parts of the world, where the presumption of innocence is the basis of criminal justice. The reforms also answer the criticism that the Mexican judicial system is largely corrupt and inadequately respects the rights of the population.

These reforms are part of a long-term plan to elevate Mexico’s stature among Latin American countries, and bring it on par with its North American neighbors. By developing a judicial system that is well understood and in which people can be confident, the prospect of buying real estate in Mexico becomes that much more attractive to commercial and individual investors.

In the last decade, Mexico has undergone a number of major reforms. The by-product of these reforms include a healthy economy, growing wealth among the population, protection for foreign investors who want to bring jobs to the region, and protection for individuals who want to live and invest in Mexico.

Buying real estate in Mexico has never been safer than it is right now, thanks in large parts to recent reforms in Mexican law that define and clarify property rights. These new judicial reforms mean that individuals can be confident that their personal rights will be respected as well.
