The Cost Of A Comfortable Retirement Is On The Rise

According to a new study released by Westpac and the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), those retirees who want to live comfortably saw a .6% increase in their expenses in the fourth quarter of 2007. The study shows that a comfortable retirement for a couple will cost about AUD$49,000 annually, or $46,360 in US funds. The cost of a “modest” retirement, which rose by .9% in the same period, would cost about AUD$26,500, or just over USD$25,000.
Those calculations show what retirees and those approaching retirement all over the world are finding out: a comfortable retirement is expensive! (Unless you make plans to retire to a place where the cost of living is lower and the quality of life is comparable to what you have now.)
One such place is Puerto Vallarta. Retirees and those planning for retirement are looking very carefully at Puerto Vallarta. Prime real estate here is still affordable, and the quality of life in Puerto Vallarta is high. The cost of living, as in the rest of Mexico, is low and will allow retirees to enjoy a comfortable retirement on the savings they have.
The real estate values here are such that many retirees, who thought they may not be able to enjoy a comfortable retirement, can retire not only in comfort, but in downright luxurious, custom-built homes that would be valued at several times their cost anywhere else in the Western world.
A comfortable retirement may be more than a luxurious home, but even those on a limited budget can afford to hire help for cooking, laundry, housekeeping and landscaping. The quality of medical and dental care is such that people from all over North America come here to find inexpensive, high-quality care. Prescription drugs are far less expensive here, home heating is unnecessary, and the cost of gasoline is regulated by a government monopoly. These factors all enable your retirement savings to go farther, while you enjoy a high quality lifestyle.
Don’t expect to find ex-pat retirees sitting in rocking chairs here, either. Retirees enjoy golf, tennis, horseback riding, deep-sea fishing and even surfing in the famed Sayulita waves!
