Seniors Who Lack Health Insurance Options Tend Not To Retire

Seniors Who Lack Health Insurance Options Tend Not To RetireA new study by Wyatt Worldwide shows that senior workers who do not possess health care coverage outside of work defer retirement to maintain their health care coverage. Additionally, the presence or absence of an employer-provided pension plan also determines when employees retire.

According to the Wyatt Worldwide study, employees who don’t expect to receive health care as a retirement benefit are 16% less likely to retire in a given year, than are employees who have access to health care insurance from another source. Indeed, the rising cost of health care has a major impact on retirement lifestyle.

Some investors are hedging on the cost of health care coverage by taking advantage of lower health care costs in Mexico. Cost isn’t the only issue when it comes to health care, however. Many seniors and retirees from countries that offer a universal health care benefit are also traveling for treatment, in an effort to avoid waiting to receive care.

Health and dental care in Puerto Vallarta are widely available and cost-effective. Puerto Vallarta has excellent, modern health care facilities and dental offices. US patients who travel in search of more cost-effective treatments, or treatments that are not available elsewhere can expect to save 50% to 75% over the cost of having the procedure at home. Puerto Vallarta health care facilities accept most private health care insurance.

Seniors should be aware that Medicare doesn’t cover health care delivered outside the United States. Some people who have chosen to retire in Puerto Vallarta travel back to the US for certain types of treatment. Travel in Puerto Vallarta is very easy. Puerto Vallarta has a brand new international airport terminal that handles about 500 flights each week. Getting back to any US major city is easy, convenient and affordable.

The cost of medication alone sometimes consumes half or more of a senior’s monthly income. In addition to substantial savings on health care and dental services, seniors have also discovered that the cost of prescription drugs in Mexico is substantially less than it is in the US.

The cost of health care is rising worldwide and shows no signs of stopping. Access to affordable, high-quality health care is an important component of a comfortable, healthy retirement.
