Access Should Be A Prime Concern When Buying Real Estate In Mexico

Access Should Be A Prime Concern When Buying Real Estate In MexicoHaving a retirement or vacation hideaway is a dream of many, but dreams-come-true are often tempered by their practical realities. While having the ideal “getaway” is nice, it should also be a place you can get to (and away from) when you need to. Access to your getaway should be a primary concern when buying real estate in Mexico.

Mexico is a developing country, and while many of its cities have solid infrastructure, many other regions do not. Right now, Mexico is in the middle of some massive infrastructure projects designed to increase the accessibility of certain tourist spots – Puerto Vallarta being one of them. These projects make the prospect of buying real estate in Mexico that much more attractive.

If you visit Puerto Vallarta right now, you’ll find a brand new international airport terminal that can handle 800,000 new passengers per year. You’ll also find a brand new water treatment plant for the city, but for the record, Puerto Vallarta has had US-quality drinking water for the last 17 years running. An enormous highway construction project has been started that will connect the major cities of Jalisco (including Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, and Tequila) with each other and with its neighbors. The marine terminals have been remodeled and expanded to accommodate more and larger cruise ships.

In short, Puerto Vallarta has solid multi-modal transportation access. That’s great news for investors because it supports the tourist economy in the area, and makes the city more attractive as a tourist destination. Puerto Vallarta is attempting to appeal more broadly, however. In October, Puerto Vallarta’s brand new state-of-the-art Convention Center will open, allowing Puerto Vallarta to host international meetings, trade shows and events. The climate will make Puerto Vallarta a winter favorite and bring hundreds of thousands of additional travelers to Puerto Vallarta, many of them for the first time.

When you’re buying real estate in Mexico for a retirement getaway, a second home or a vacation home, consider the level of access your intended purchase can offer. If you can’t get to your desired spot easily by air, sea or land, you may want to rethink the purchase. Instead look at buying real estate in Mexico that is more friendly to travelers and other potential buyers.
